James N. Cooper, M.D. is an experienced clinical research
investigator, leading initiatives focusing on driving change in clinical
practice. In addition to numerous scientific presentations and publications he
has been the recipient of multiple awards, including the American College of
Physicians Laureate Award and the Georgetown University Dr Lawrence Kyle Award.
He has served as Professor of Medicine and Assistant Dean of the Georgetown
University School of Medicine, Medical Director of Research and Education at
Inova Health Systems and Chairman of Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax
Hospital. During his tenure, multiple specialties within his department were
cited in US News and World Report’s annual list of top hospital programs.
As Director of Medical Research Development and Professor in the Life Sciences
Division at George Mason University, Dr. Cooper was responsible for advancing
collaborations between research teams and the clinical and biotechnology
sectors. He also provided consultation and lectures to international medical
facilities in Taiwan, Hungary, China, Korea, and Russia, in order to enhance
and improve the delivery of medical care.
He previously served as founding Chairman of Theragnostics Health, a molecular
diagnostics company assisting clinicians and providing biotechnology and
pharmaceutical companies with advanced proteomic analysis in support of their
drug discovery and development programs. The company was acquired in 2016.
Dr. Cooper graduated from Columbia University, earned a medical degree from New
York University, completed residency training at Georgetown University and
Boston City Hospital, and received specialty training in gastroenterology at the
University of Chicago.
